Restoration is the science of preserving cultural heritage. This documentary follows the restoration of Konstantin Korovin's monumental panel Northern Lights. The audience is taken inside the restoration studios of the State Tretyakov Gallery, observing conservators at work as if participating in the process themselves. As the film unfolds, the story of restoring a work of art gradually becomes the story of the people behind it—for whom conservation is not merely a profession, but a lifelong vocation, and whose daily purpose is to bring works of art back into the light.
